Experience the Adrenalin as the Horses Fly at Horsley Park 2006

Only a week after Australia claimed the Silver medal in the Three Day Event* championships at the World Equestrian Games, over 120 top horses and riders from across Australia and overseas will be competing at NSW’s own equestrian three-day-event Championships – the Bates International Three Day Event.

Over four exciting days, from the 7-10 September, horses and riders will test their agility and endurance over three phases - dressage, cross-country and showjumping.  Riders will be competing to win the prestigious Horseland CCI*** and the Asian Pacific Challenge Trophy proudly sponsored by IRT and Eventing NSW.

Each day is a great family day out, with not only an adrenalin pumping sport to experience, but also other activities such as the Parelli Natural Horsemanship demonstration, the Mitavite Pony Club Derby, pony rides, great bargains in the Shopping Village, the latest fashions on show, food stalls and wine tasting.

Note: Best photographic opportunities will be on Saturday where thrills and spills of cross country can be captured and also Sunday, which is the final phase of the Event, showjumping

* A Three Day Event is similar to a triathlon for horses. The combination of horse and rider compete in three phases, covering the disciplines of dressage, cross-country and showjumping. Penalties are incurred in each phase and the combination with the lowest penalties at the end of the event is the winner. Australia has one 6 Olympic gold medals in this event.

28/06/06 – Sydney gets a new Name – Bates International Three-Day Event

Sydney International Eventing is excited to announce that Bates Australia and Horseland have come on board as key Sponsors of the Sydney International Three Day Event.

For the next three years the event will now be known as the Bates International Three-Day Event and the premier class as the Horseland CCI***.

In speaking about Bates Australia’s and Horseland’s sponsorship, Paul Cargill President of Sydney International Eventing said “It’s great to have two of the equestrian industry’s leaders putting their full support behind one of Australia’s premier three-day event’s”.

“This long term commitment from Bates Australia and Horseland will ensure Sydney International Eventing will be able to grow the event and continue to offer top quality prizes, including saddles from Bates Australia the industry leaders in innovation, to the winners of the Horseland CCI*** and the CCI** classes’ Mr Cargill added.

“We are proud to be ongoing sponsors of the Bates International Three-Day Event, it’s a great opportunity to be involved in a world class event and build stronger relationships with the Equestrian Community” Ron Bates, Managing Director of Bates Australia.

The General Manager of Horseland Geoff Sinclair, said “Horseland has been a long term supporter of the Sydney Three-Day Event and we are excited to increase our contribution and look forward to working with Sydney International Eventing over the next three years”

16/05/06 - Five More Important Reasons to put Sydney International Three-Day Event on your Calendar!

This year's Sydney International Three- Day Event is preparing to make its mark on the Eventing world when it is held from the 7th to 10th September at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, Horsley Park.

If competing at or viewing an adrenalin pumping sport at a world class Olympic venue isn't enough incentive to attend this year's Sydney International Three-Day Event then perhaps the following five reasons will be:

  1. Horses and riders should be prepared to ride a cross-country phase like never before. The course is being reversed, with rider's heading out to the second water jump and National Park before jumping the main water complex ‘backwards'. A considerable amount of work is being undertaken by Wayne Copping on the course to create lots of new challenges for horse and rider as they strive to win the three CCI classes and qualify for Adelaide CCI****.

  2. International involvement of the Sydney International Three-Day Event will be in full force again this year, with the Asian Pacific Challenge Trophy being held this time at the CCI* level so that competitors can qualify for the Asian Games to be held in Doha later his year. The Challenge has received strong interest from the Japanese, Indonesian, Thailand and Malaysia Federations so far .

  3. Eric Smiley from Ireland has accepted to head up the CCI*** /CCI** Ground Jury. Eric is an Eventing great from Ireland having represented Ireland three times at the World Equestrian Games, competed six times at Badminton and is a Fellow of the British Horse Society (FBHS).

  4. The inaugural Mitavite Pony Club Derby Challenge will be held on the final day of competition (Sunday 10th Sept) in the main arena between jumping classes. This event is a great way for local younger riders to be involved in an international event, develop their riding skills while enjoying themselves at the same time.

  5. After three years' absence Carriage Driving will be making a welcomed return to this year's Event. On Saturday 9th Sept the Main Arena will host the first two phases of competition - Dressage & Cones, while on Sunday 10th Sept the single, pairs and four in-hands will take to the cross-country course.

There will be plenty to see and do for everyone throughout the Event, including some great shopping, fashions on parade and riding school expo.

For those wanting to attend the event in style the Club Equus and Supporters Tent will be the place to be, with premier viewing areas and catering over the four days of competition.

Further information, updates and ticketing details for the Sydney International Three-Day Event can be found at www.sydneyeventing.org .

A big thank you to those stallion owners who expressed an interest in participating in the stallion parades this year – unfortunately a number of stallions could not make it due to other commitments – competitive and breeding so it has been decided to cancel this year’s parade.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may have presented to those owners who expressed an interest.  Sydney International Eventing is very committed to promoting the breeding of performance horses and will plan to run.  If there are any breeders or breeding associations who would be interested in helping the Event Committee coordinate the parade next year please contact Rose Read on 0418 216364
