2/07/08 - Bates Sydney international 3DE is Back again in 2008

After a successful return from equine influenza in April this year the Bates Sydney International Three-Day Event is back again from the 11th-14th September at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, Horsley Park.

The event will run CCI***, CCI**, CCI* and CCN PreNovice classes with over $30,000 in prizes up for grabs including $18,000 in cash, two Bates Elevation Saddles for the winners of the CCI*** and CCI** classes and the latest riding gear from Horseland.

Jean Mitchell (IRL) from Ireland will head the CCI*** and CCI** ground jury. Jean was a member of the ground jury for the 2000 Sydney Olympics teams event and will provide riders with a great opportunity to perform in front of one of the world’s top FEI technical delegates and Dressage Judges.

Our own gold medallist Gill Rolton from South Australia will lead the CCI*/CCN Pre Novice Ground Jury and Wayne Copping will continue to challenge horse and rider with his testing cross country courses.

A special feature of the September event will be the Asian Pacific Challenge Trophy, which had to be cancelled in 2007 due to the outbreak of equine influenza.

Riders from Japan, Malaysia, India, Indonesia and South Korea will be competing on their own and borrowed horses in both the CCI* and CCN PreNovice levels for the prestigious Challenge Trophy and $2,000 in cash.  The owner of the winning horse will also win $1,500.

“The Asian Pacific Challenge Trophy in its first two years has been a very rewarding experience for all involved.  We encourage owners and coaches who have a horse they could loan or would like to coach an overseas rider to become involved,” said Mr Paul Cargill, President of Sydney International Eventing Inc.

Many other exciting developments are in the pipeline for the Event, including plans to run a State Teams Competition in association with the National Eventing Committee and possibly a Junior Teams Competition in partnership with Eventing NSW.  Carriage driving displays and junior riding competitions will also held over the weekend along with some fun sporting activities.

Other awards presented will be the annual Grooms Award, the Robert Slade Memorial Trophy for the winner of the Horseland CCI***, the Erin Walker Trophy for the highest place Junior in the PreNovice and the Best Dressed Female and Male riders at the Trot Up.

“It’s going to be an exciting Event, where you can expect to see some outstanding equestrian performances, win some great prizes as well as do some serious shopping at the trade stands.” said Mr Cargill.
